Martiros and his friend Diego spent the afternoon in the pool. This was the first time Martiros had a male friend over to the pool since he started being comfortable jumping in the deep end. It’s interesting to watch the same competition among friends I had forgotten from my own youth.
When does it stop working to “dare” your friends into doing something they are don’t want to do? Peer pressure seems like a potentially powerful tool for good, but very easily subverted for evil. Even we adults, though we stop challenging each other directly we still aim to govern each other with sideways glances and expectations of conformance. It’s all Well and good to advise him to be free of such nonsense, but I’m still eating sugar.
