Last night we built a paper mâché volcano. Martiros is very excited. When completed he expects an explosion of flaming lava. I haven’t had the heart to lower his expectations, but there’s only so much explosion you can get out of baking soda and vinegar. Still, it’s pretty cool to build and paint the thing and I think it will be cool even if it isn’t exactly a detonation.
Sharp eyed pancake aficionados will note that this is actually my second pancake volcano. The first was three dimensional and involved simulated lava from yogurt. It was one of my earliest efforts. I wish I could put my arms around the shoulders of that enthusiastic, young pancake chef and tell him to slow down and stop trying so hard. More isn’t always more.
